What do you do once you've found the gap?
A citation gap is a to-do list, not a scoreboard. For each prompt where a rival gets cited and you don't, open the page the engine actually cited. Read what it covers that yours doesn't: a comparison table, a specific price, a use case your page skips. Then write the page that answers the buyer's question more directly than the one the engine is currently quoting, in the plain, quotable style AI answers tend to lift from.
Prioritize by two things: how many engines show the same gap, and how close the prompt sits to a buying decision. A gap that shows up on five engines for a bottom-funnel comparison question is worth writing for before a gap that shows up on one engine for a vague, early-stage question.
